Captain Corelli's mandolin / Louis de Bernieres

A beautiful, unexpected story set in the lush landscape of Greece during the  Italian occupation of World War II. The story completely captured the horror of war and the beauty of a true love that can exist and illuminate even the most  terrible of conditions.  I applaud de Bernieres for his stunning portrayal of such a romance and such a time.
